Joint Manager and Margate FC Captain Ben Greenhalgh has been impressed with five youth players that have been training with the squad this week, and the joint manager says they will be part of the match day squad moving forward.

“There are five lads that have played for the U18’s and Academy this year that we want around the first team squad in training and on matchday's. I remember when I was a young kid at Welling and being involved meant everything to me and Reece and I want to be able to do that for these lads.”

In addition to being part of the First Team each player has achieved game time in recent matches with Jake McCarthy playing the full 90 minutes against Brightlingsea Regent last Saturday.

On Twitter after the game joint manager Reece Prestedge commented:” Massive shout out to left back Jake McCarthy 17-year-old academy lad who was outstanding today for me & Ben Greenhalgh.”

Greenhalgh added: “Shout out to Jake McCarthy for putting in a solid performance as a 17-year-old on his debut start for Margate FC. A debut he’ll always remember playing for his local club, hopefully the first of many from the youth section that me and Reece can involve!!”
