MATCH REPORT / Gate Rocked By Bognor
Gate Rocked By Bognor
By Tom Morris
Margate were on the wrong end of an attacking masterclass as Bognor scored six under the floodlights at Hartsdown Park.
November has been flooded with Tuesday night fixtures and we still have one to play before the month is out and will be looking to bounce back after a difficult night against a very impressive Rocks side. Injuries to Tupper and Holloway meant a start in goal for Owen Kallmeier who was quickly called into action after 2 minutes making a point blank save and taking the ball to his face for his troubles, he was able to continue but was beaten twice in 3 minutes as Dan Smith beat the offside trap to race through and score after 8 minutes before 3 minuets later a neat back heel and cross presented Crane with a tap in at the near post. 2-0 down and less than 15 minutes gone.
The game settled down after the early goals, the ‘Gate had a number of corners that came to nothing and O’Shane Stewart came close to scoring with a long range piledriver that was tipped over by Tangara but Bognor looked dangerous in possession and as the half ended the players jogged off frustrated with the early set back.
The second half started with a glimmer of hope as the ever-willing Ramadan collected a delightful pass from Prestedge and fired his shot under the on-rushing keeper, 1-2 and only 2 minutes played in the second half. Much to the dismal of the home support this goal seemed to reinvigorate Bognor and in the 54th minute Ashton Leigh scored the goal of the game; dispossessing Essuman, playing a neat 1-2 and rounding Kallmeier before slotting home, 3-1 now to our visitors.
In the 57th minute Bognor extended their lead as Hopkinson bundled the ball home at the back post following more impressive build up play, 1-4 now and still half an hour to play. Noel Leighton replaced Sanusi and almost scored within 5 minutes as he latched onto a Ramadan cross but found Tangara equal to his effort. Margate were pushing forward looking for goals and created a few half chances but Bognor were soaking up the pressure and htting us on the counter: in the 83rd minutes Doulgas Tuck broke free in the box, road a challenge and took two attempts to fire the ball home making the score 1-5. There was just enough time for Kallmeier to make a great save to deny Leigh before in the last minute of regulation time Crane got his second finishing a flowing move with a powerful drive into the corner ending the scoring and the game 6-1 to our visitors.
Margate: Kallmeier, Sessegnon, Porter, Prestedge ©, Johnson, Essuman, Richards, Stewart, Sanusi (Leighton 67), Reeves, Ramadan
