Bola: "I Had A Point To Prove"

Margate Striker Vance Bola says he felt that he had “a point to prove” after netting his first league goal since the 3rd January in the Blues 2-0 win over Merstham on Tuesday night.

Bola has netted in the Velocity Trophy since then, however last night’s league goal was his first since the win at Bowers & Pitsea in the Isthmian Premier Division.

“It felt good to be back amongst the team and starting again and to score the first goal felt great”.

“I have been in and out of the team and I say it all the time but the Gaffer knows how to get the best out of me, whether I like it or not”.

Bola had been named as a substitute in the Blues previous league games and he recognises that being benched helped him score his goal last night.

“Jay knew that benching me was the worst thing he could do to rile me up. I think he saw me get comfortable in my previous games, so I had to go out there and silence him and show him what I can do”.

“I was confident as I have a good record against Merstham so I am pleased I got the goal”.

Bola has been a shining light at Hartsdown Park with his goals alongside Ben Greenhalgh and the 27-year-old striker says there is currently good competition for places.

“We haven’t had trouble scoring up until the last few games. We have some really good attacking players at the club. James (Bessey-Saldanha) is a handful and Joseph (Gbode) is so tricky to play against at just the age of 16, he is going to be a real talent”

“Me and Ben (Greenhalgh) have a competition as we both want to score the most goals, but having competition is great”.

Looking ahead to Saturdays trip to The Dripping Pan to face Lewes, Bola says Margate must gain revenge for their 6-2 loss at Hartsdown Park earlier in the season.

“We owe them a performance, and we need to go there and get revenge for that 6-2 loss at Hartsdown Park”.

“It was boys against men that afternoon and we have to go there this weekend and put in a performance that shows how good we are, but also that can earn us three points”.

Vance Bola is sponsored this season by Daniel Brimer (Home) and Terry Scott (Away).
