Bay Women Defeat Blues in Thrilling Friendly

In a thrilling encounter between Herne Bay Women and Margate FC Women, it was the Bay who emerged victorious in a fiercely contested battle, eventually winning 4-3 at the MBS Stadium.

The clash was even more significant as Herne Bay Women compete in a league above Margate FC Women, currently residing in tier six, while Margate aspire to reach the same league level but currently remain in tier seven.

Herne Bay showed their prowess early on, dominating the first half and establishing a comfortable 2-0 lead. However, Margate displayed their resilience and desire to compete at a higher level. A crucial substitution saw JJ Speller being introduced, and her impact was immediate as she found the back of the net, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

Buoyed by the goal, Margate continued to press forward, and their relentless efforts paid off when they were awarded a penalty. Harri Chapman stepped up confidently and coolly converted the spot-kick, levelling the score at 2-2. The comeback from being 2-0 down to 2-2 injected new life and belief into the Margate side, much to the delight of their traveling supporters.

Herne Bay’s attacking prowess shone through once again as they regained the lead with a well-worked team goal, making it 3-2 in their favour.

The match continued to ebb and flow, with both teams creating scoring opportunities and testing the resilience of each other's defence. Eventually, Herne Bay Women managed to extend their lead, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to make it 4-2.

Despite the setback, Margate refused to give up and continued to fight valiantly. Their persistence paid off as they pulled another goal back, narrowing the gap to 4-3, setting up a tense and nervy finish to the match.

In the dying moments of the game, Margate pushed forward desperately in search of an equaliser, but Herne Bay Women held firm, showcasing their experience and defensive composure to see out the match.

Margate continue their pre-season campaign as they welcome tier three side Hashtag United on Sunday with kick-off scheduled for 2:30pm at Hartsdown Park.
