Wingate & Finchley (H) - 20th April 2024

By Josh Cole

The final home game of the 2023/24 season sees Margate take on playoff side, Wingate & Finchley in a massive game for the ‘Gate’s chances for survival.

Last time out Margate were narrowly defeated by the league champions, Hornchurch, despite putting in a great performance. You can read the full match report from that game by clicking here.

Come down to HDP for one last time this season, the boys need all your support as we enter the final two games of the season. You can get your tickets by clicking here or on the turnstiles tomorrow!

OPPONENTS’ SEASON SO FAR:

After getting battered on opening day by Folkestone Invicta, the boys from North London went four games undefeated winning three and drawing one, before they lost to Hornchurch and Hashtag back-to-back. They followed up those losses with three wins on the spin but then lost their next three games until they beat Lewes 1-2. Just sitting one point outside the playoff places, Wingate beat us 1-0 at the Maurice Rebak Stadium. A loss away to Chatham Town then pushed Wingate to win their next three games against Carshalton, Billericay and Concord but then they lost away to Potters Bar. Another four games without a loss followed, winning three against Kingstonian, Cheshunt and Whitehawk whilst drawing to Folkestone. Two losses on the bounce stopped their fine form but they immediately returned to winning ways, by beating Lewes, 3-0. This was followed up by an incredible 4-2 win against 2nd placed Chatham Town. Three draws and a win came after but then a loss to in-form Bognor Regis, halted the Wingate good run. Since that loss to Bognor, Wingate have been unbeaten, winning five games and drawing two, which sees them sit in a playoff spot in 4th, however, not mathematically secured, meaning this game is as big for them as it is for us.
