'Gate Held in Last Gasp Draw
Carshalton Athletic rescued themselves a point in the dying moments at Hartsdown Park as Ricky Korboa struck home a 93rd minute effort to deny Margate all three points as the two sides fought out a 1-1 draw in the BetVictor Isthmian Premier League.
Blustery conditions at Hartsdown Park made conditions difficult for both sides to play football, however it was the hosts with the early possession and chances as Noel Leighton released Reece Prestedge who saw a chip well help by the Carshalton ‘Keeper.
Margate felt they should have had a penalty in the 38th minute as Ben Swifts volley was deflected wide with the Blues players protesting it was a handball, however the referee waved play on and the visitors survived the appeal, although the hosts didn’t have to wait long to take the lead as Elliott Reeves tapped home a rebound to give Margate a 1-0 lead at the break.
Margate started the second half under pressure and the visitors could have levelled within five minutes of the restart as Lewis White lifted the ball over from 5 yards after Joe Tupper had saved from Korboa’s effort.
Carshalton grabbed their equaliser in the 93rd minute as Korboa struck home at the far post past Tupper. The visitors could have won it in the final minute of stoppage time, however Tupper snuffed out a Christie Pattisson effort to keep the scores level.
