Manager Jay Saunders applauded his Margate side as they accomplished back-to-back wins in the Bostik League for the first time this season.

A Noel Leighton brace and Kadell Daniel strike ensured three points against Corinthian Casuals, and another important victory for Saunders who was delighted with his first venture out of Kent as Margate boss.

“Saturday was a great performance from start to finish and the perfect manner to finally get back-to-back wins this season!”

“Corinthian Casuals is never an easy place to go, so it was good to firstly keep another clean sheet and secondly get three goals from open play.”

It is an area Saunders identified straight away in his new role at Hartsdown Park, and with both new recruits getting on the scoresheet, Saunders is hoping to breed confidence in Margate’s strike force.

“The final third is an area we looked at and were keen to start creating more and scoring more from open play.”

“It is nice that the goals have come from Kadell and Noel which will help them settle in nicely.”

Saunders added,

“The added bonus from the afternoon was that we were able to give a few a rest once we went three up.”

“That was very important given the small squad we have at the moment, although hopefully we will have two more faces in for Tuesday’s game!”

Attention quickly turns to that Tuesday game, as The Gate host Carshalton Athletic at Hartsdown Park.

Saunders anticipates a tricky night but is hopeful home advantage will hold the team in good stead against a good outfit.

“This will be a real test for us. I know their manager Peter Adenyi very well and he has done an excellent job there and they play some very good football, so it will be a tough game.

“Hopefully we can build on our last three results and take confidence from them. We’ll be looking for another decent home display and if we can continue to pick up from the atmosphere and noise last time, that will be brilliant.”

“The fans were brilliant again on Saturday and I want to thank them for their continued support. Hopefully we can give them more to cheer about tomorrow night.”
