MATCH REPORT / Gate Continue Winning Streak
Gate Continue Winning Streak
By Evan Paris
Margate Ladies were in league action this Sunday on their travels away to Glebe ladies.
The hosts have always been well organised and physical so the gate knew they would be in for a tough afternoon if they were going to pick up the 3pts.
Playing a 3-5-2 formation Rebecca Slevin moved into the middle from centre back and it was from her through ball that lead to a 1 on 1 for Harriet Woolston to open the scoring on 10 minutes with a powerful effort past the home keeper.
Glebe levelled the score with a fiercely struck free kick eight minutes later.(1-1)
Player of the match Wiktoria Bukowska put the blues back in front shortly after with a fortuitous driven cross that sailed into the top corner over the home keepers reach(2-1).Half an hour in and Megan Longden bagged her second goal in two games as she lined up and scored with a well hit free kick from 20 yards to give the visitors a 3-1 lead at the break.
The Bluebirds went in search of goals in the 2nd half and created a hat full of opportunities before Woolston finally got her second slotting past the on rushing keeper after good work and an assist from Lily Kemp. (4-1)
Glebe were given a lifeline on 70 mins with a rightly awarded penalty after a high boot caught the home skipper in the head. Lauren Watson was given no chance as the spot kick was well placed In the bottom corner(4-2). With time running out a frustrated kara Richardson got on the scoresheet out pacing the defence and latching on to a Woolston through ball before firing home and completing the 5-2 victory.
It's always pleasing seeing goals flying in and the ladies have now scored 20 in their last 3 games but equally pleasing is the fact the defence has only conceded once from open play in those 3 games.
We hope to keep this form going into Tuesdays home Isthmian Women's Cup quarter final at HDP(19:45 K/O) against a strong and high flying premier league team Herne Bay Ladies.
