Margate Football Club is delighted to confirm the signing of attacking midfielder Kane Haysman from Herne Bay.
The 30-year-old is no stranger to Hartsdown Park, having made 25 appearances for the Blues during the 2017/18 season. In that campaign, Haysman made a significant impact, scoring eight goals — including strikes in three consecutive games — as well as netting the winner in a 1-0 victory over Dulwich Hamlet, as Margate narrowly missed out on a place in the Isthmian Premier Division play-offs.
Following his departure in 2018, Haysman took a break from football before signing for Herne Bay in early 2024. Haysman reignited his relationship with the ‘Gate on New Year’s Day 2025, when he scored against the Blues at the Crest Stadium. Ironically, that goal came in a 2-1 Derby Day win for Margate over Herne Bay.
Manager Ben Greenhalgh expressed his excitement at completing the signing:
“Kane has shown over the past 18 months the quality everyone knows he possesses. He contributed 16 goals last season at Herne Bay, including one against us. He’s a player we’ve monitored closely for a long time, and we’re delighted to finally get this deal done.”
In a corresponding squad update, the club can also confirm the departure of Ben Wells. The defensive midfielder joined Margate in June from Hastings United but has struggled to commit to the demands of travel. As a result, the club and player have mutually agreed to part ways.
Everyone at Margate FC would like to thank Ben for his time at Hartsdown Park and wish him all the very best for the future. At the same time, we extend a warm welcome back to Kane Haysman as he returns to CT9.
