Margate begin their Isuzu FA Trophy campaign on Friday night with a trip to Egham Town in the Extra-Preliminary Round.

The Blues will be eager to kick-start their season after a difficult opening spell, having picked up just one point from their first two league matches. Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at home to Cobham in the Emirates FA Cup brought an early end to this season’s run in that competition, and manager Ben Greenhalgh will be keen for a response.

Greenhalgh could hand a debut to today’s new signing Kane Haysman, who returns to Hartsdown Park seven years after his previous spell with the club. With Ben Wells having departed and Louie Atkins still sidelined through injury, the Blues boss may look to freshen up his squad ahead of tonight’s tie.

This will be the third ever meeting between Margate and Egham Town. The most recent clash came in 2017 in this very competition, when a brace from Frannie Collin secured a 2-0 win for Margate at Hartsdown Park. The only other meeting was back in 1989 in the FA Cup, when Margate came out 1-0 winners.

Hosts Egham Town have also had a challenging start to their season, losing both of their opening league fixtures. Their Emirates FA Cup replay at home to Corinthian on Tuesday night was abandoned with Egham leading 2-1.

A place in the next round is up for grabs and, with the tie being decided on the night, penalties will follow immediately if the scores are level after 90 minutes.

Come and support the Blues as they look to build momentum and progress in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
