We continue our Isuzu FA Trophy campaign on Saturday with a trip to Surrey, where we face Isthmian South Central side Westfield in the First Qualifying Round of the competition.
The Blues progressed to this stage after a solid 2-0 win over Egham Town in the Preliminary Round in August, thanks to goals from Ibrahim Olutade and Max Walsh.
Westfield will be making their first appearance in this season’s FA Trophy, but they come into the tie in good form. Last weekend, they secured a 2-0 win over Sheppey United in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round, booking a home tie against National League South side Horsham in the next round.
In league action, Westfield have picked up two wins from their opening four matches – a 1-0 home victory over South Park Reigate and a 3-1 away win at Horndean. Their two defeats came in a 3-0 home loss to Leatherhead and a narrow 3-2 defeat at Raynes Park Vale.
This will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides, although we did meet in a pre-season friendly last August, with Margate edging a 2-1 win.
Team News
Manager Ben Greenhalgh will be hopeful of recalling Sam Blackman to the squad after he missed Tuesday night’s Velocity Cup tie against Sheppey United, which ended in a penalty shootout defeat.
Striker Louie Atkins continues his recovery from a knee injury, while defender Emmanuel Oke will undergo a late fitness test following the injury he picked up in the 3-3 draw at Ashford United on Bank Holiday Monday.
We can also confirm that Margate Youth star Finn Saunders and Academy player Reggie Aboagye have signed first team forms with the Blues. Both exciting prospects featured for the ‘Gate in this summers pre-season schedule.
Supporters are reminded that Margate will wear their away kit for Saturday’s match.
