This Sunday Margate Women begin their competitive season with a trip to Flamingo Park to take on Cray Wanderers in the Adobe FA Cup ahead of an action packed 2025/2026 season.
The ‘Gate took on Sunday’s opponents twice last season, with a 3-3 draw at Flamingo Park as well as a 2-1 defeat at Hartsdown Park in the Southern East Counties Women’s Football League.
This time around will provide a new test for George Adams squad as Cray have new management and several new signings to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Margate have a full squad available for the opening game, including a first appearance for fan favourite winger Rebecca Niblett who adds quality out wide.
George Adams has said how excited he and the girls are to get going, and show what they’ve developed throughout preseason:
“Myself and the squad are really excited to kick the season off on Sunday. It’s been a long wait with plenty of hard work in preparation, and we’re looking forward to the chance to prove ourselves.”
“Cray look a strong side and have had good results in preseason, but it’s a challenge that we will welcome and feel prepared for.”
“Now it’s time for the players to express themselves, and show everyone how capable they are!”
Kick-off is scheduled for 2:30pm with a result on the day meaning should the scores be level after 90 minutes the tie will be decided by penalties.
The winner will progress to the Second Qualifying Round
