Margate are back at Hartsdown Park this Saturday, for their first home league fixture since the opening day of the season.
Ben Greenhalgh’s side welcome newly-promoted VCD Athletic, who earned their place in the Isthmian League South East Division after winning the SCEFL Premier Division play-offs last season.
Opponent Watch: VCD Athletic
The visitors have had a mixed start to life at this level, picking up six points from their opening four league games. They began the season with successive draws against Faversham Town and Beckenham, followed by another draw against Jersey Bulls, before registering their first win with a 2-1 victory over Erith Town.
Like the ‘Gate, VCD are out of both the FA Cup and the Velocity Trophy, following defeats to Sittingbourne (1-0) and Walthamstow (5-2), respectively. However, they progressed in the FA Trophy, edging past Rayners Lane on penalties after a goalless draw.
VCD also feature some familiar faces for Margate supporters, with Sinnks Christie, Fyn Rutherford, Ben Fitchett, and Connor Dymond now playing for the newly promoted side.
Blues Update
Margate come into the game boosted by a morale-boosting win away at Ramsgate in the Go Cardless Kent Senior Cup on Tuesday night. Greenhalgh will be eager for his side to carry that momentum into the league, as they continue their search for a first league win of the season, having drawn three and lost one of their opening four matches.
Injury updates: Louie Atkins and Emmanuel Oke continue their rehabilitation and are hoping to return to action in the coming weeks.
