Margate Women suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat away at Kings Hill on Sunday afternoon, despite holding a deserved half-time lead.
Manager George Adams was boosted by the return of Nicole Adams and Abbie Luby to the matchday squad, and the Blues started brightly, taking the game to the hosts from the outset.
Captain Becca Niblett had the first real chance of the game in the 16th minute, going close with a powerful effort. Continued pressure soon paid off, and Margate broke the deadlock shortly before the half-hour mark. Freya Farmery delivered a pinpoint assist for Emily Hall, who finished confidently to put the visitors 1-0 up.
Margate almost doubled their lead just before the break, as Michaela Beach saw her goal-bound effort dramatically cleared off the line. The Blues went into half-time well on top and full of confidence.
However, the second half told a different story. Kings Hill came out with renewed energy and quickly turned the game on its head, scoring twice to take a 2-1 lead.
Margate responded with urgency and came agonisingly close to levelling the match, as Alesha Beach fired just wide following a well-worked corner routine. Despite the Blues’ efforts to get back into the game, it was the hosts who struck again late on to seal all three points.
The defeat marks Margate’s second league loss of the season.
The team will look to bounce back next Sunday as they return to Hartsdown Park to face high-flying Cray Wanderers. Kick-off is at 4:30pm — come down and show your support!
