Margate welcome newly-promoted AFC Whyteleafe to Hartsdown Park this evening, as they look to return to winning ways following a narrow defeat at Sheppey United on Saturday.
The ‘Gate were left frustrated at Holm Park, conceding a 95th-minute penalty that ended their four-game unbeaten run in all competitions. That result saw Margate slip from 7th to 9th in the Isthmian South-East Division table, having previously climbed the standings thanks to a strong run of form.
Tonight’s visitors, AFC Whyteleafe, have made an impressive start to life at Step 4 and currently sit 2nd in the league after eight games. They head into this fixture unbeaten in their last four league matches, including a 2-1 home win over Broadbridge Heath last weekend.
However, Whyteleafe’s away form tells a different story. They are without a win on the road in their last four outings across all competitions, with their last away victory coming back on Saturday 23rd August in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
The visitors arrive with experience in their ranks, including on-loan Ramsgate midfielder Anthony Grant and seasoned forward Moses Emmanuel, whose previous clubs include Bromley, Hayes & Yeading, Woking and Billericay Town. Emmanuel’s presence will pose a significant test for the Margate defence.
Blues boss Ben Greenhalgh is hopeful of returning to the dugout tonight after missing Saturday’s fixture due to a family emergency. In terms of squad news, midfielder Max Walsh and striker Ibrahim Olutade are edging closer to a return, while Brandon Davey – who was stretchered off against Sheppey – is facing a potentially long-term hip injury, with the club awaiting further assessment.
