Margate return to action this evening looking to build on Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 away victory at Eastbourne Town.
The ‘Gate produced a sensational late turnaround at The Saffrons, with Kieron Agbebi and Max Walsh both striking in the final five minutes to seal Margate’s first away win of the Isthmian South-East Division campaign. Walsh’s spectacular overhead kick proved the difference as Margate claimed all three points in thrilling fashion.
Manager Ben Greenhalgh is expected to return to the squad after missing Saturday’s match, while there were further boosts at the weekend with the returns of Ibrahim Olutade to the starting XI, Kieron Agbebi from the bench, and defender Lewis Knight, who made a late appearance as he continues his comeback from injury. With several key players regaining fitness, the squad’s depth is beginning to improve.
Tonight’s visitors, Faversham Town, arrive at Hartsdown Park unbeaten in league action so far this season. The Lilywhites currently sit third in the Isthmian South-East Division, having won six and drawn three of their opening nine fixtures. When the two sides met at The Aquatherm Stadium in September, they shared a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter.
Margate’s defence will need to be alert to the threat of Tashi-Jay Kwaayie, who leads the division’s scoring charts with nine goals in nine matches.
Historically, the fixture has favoured Margate. September’s 0-0 draw was the first league meeting between the sides since 1959, and Margate remain unbeaten against Faversham in all competitions since then — including clashes in the Kent Senior Cup, Isthmian League Cup, and FA Cup. You have to go back to 1957 to find the last time Margate were beaten by tonight’s visitors.
