Margate Women begin their SECWFL League Cup campaign on Sunday as they make the trip to Bromley to face Petts Wood.
The ‘Gate currently sit 4th in the SECWFL Kent Premier Division, however they now switch attention to the cup campaign this weekend against lower league opposition.
Manager George Adams is looking forward to a different challenge this weekend. “Sunday offers a nice break from the league, but also the chance to chase some silverware. The buzz around the team is really good right now, and I’m sure they’re excited for the chance to prove themselves”.
Adams side made it two wins on the bounce last weekend with a superb 5-2 home win over Tunbridge Wells Foresters at Hartsdown Park, and Adams saw more positives than just the result on the day. “We played at a really high intensity and were rewarded for it. I couldn’t have been prouder of each player. There were additional positives too, like Katie George from the Development team scoring her first goal for us”.
“The pathway from our strong youth setup, which Dave Woodgate has worked so hard on, into the first team is really important for what we are building, so I was really pleased with that”.
Despite the recent upturn in results and performances, Adams is looking for his side to be more consistent after a “mixed” start, however recent performances give him hope that it will still be a successful season. “It’s certainly been a mixed bag, we had a less than ideal start to the season with the Cray & Maidstone game. But the girls have shown some real character and ownership to turn things around”.
“We have definitely seen an uptake in performance and intensity levels, which I’m really happy about. We sit in fourth at the moment, which is a fair reflection of our season so far and it’s a good position to hopefully push on”.
