Match Preview: Sheppey United v Margate – Isthmian South-East Division

Margate make the short trip to Sheppey United on Tuesday evening as they look to continue their positive start to the 2026/27 season.

The ‘Gate currently sit second in the Isthmian South-East Division, however have played a game more than most in the division, and in some cases two games more.

Saturday’s 2-1 win over Crowborough Athletic, followed on from their opening day 0-0 draw away at Cray Valley (PM), giving the ‘Gate four points from a possible six so far.

Tuesday evening’s opposition have enjoyed a positive start to the campaign having overcome Kennington in the Emirates FA Cup 6-2 in a replay after a 1-1 draw in the first tie, and then claiming their first three points in the Isthmian South-East on Saturday with a convincing 4-0 away win at newly promoted Horley Town.

History between these two sides stretches right back to 1912, and tonight’s meeting will be the 101st meeting against each other.

More recently both sides have enjoyed successes against each other. Last season both sides won a game each as Sheppey United beat the ‘Gate at Holm Park 2-1 in September, whilst the ‘Gate won 2-0 at Hartsdown Park in February. The two sides also met in the first round of the Isthmian League Cup at Holm Park which Sheppey United won on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the 90 minutes.

Margate will wait to see on the fitness of Jake McIntyre who continues to recover from injury, whilst this game is likely to come too soon for Olu.

Kick-off at the Sharrocks Insurance Stadium is scheduled for 7:45pm.
