Margate continued their unbeaten start to the campaign as they won 1-0 away at Sheppey United on Tuesday evening.
Manager Jamie Coyle made changes as he welcomed back Gibou Njie into the team after he served his one game suspension, whilst Oghosa Williams made his first start in a Margate shirt.
It was the hosts that started the better with some periods of early pressure on the ‘Gate goal without really forcing any real opportunities on Harry Seaden’s goal.
In the 10th minute though Seaden, making his 50th appearance for the ‘Gate made an incredible save to keep the scores level as he somehow beat away a back post header which looked certain to hit the back of the net.
Margate began to grow into the game as Javaun Splatt fired wide before he was then again released by Bradley Schafer only to see his one on one effort tipped superbly wide by the hosts keeper.
It was then time for Splatt to return the favour as Margate broke quickly with Splatt finding some room out wide right and firing a ball across goal which missed Schafer by inches at the back post.
Margate made a tactical switch in the 36th minute as David Adewoju was withdrawn in place of Albie O’Mara-Knapp to give the ‘Gate some more creativity when they had the ball.
There was to be no further action though in the first half as both sides headed in level at the break.
Margate looked much more attacking in the early stages of the second half and almost took advantage of some Sheppey defending which saw a defender loop the ball over his own keeper’s head, which was clawed away onto the post, however Williams was only able to hit the outside of the post from a follow in.
Margate continued very much on the front foot as Williams again created his own chance as he took a long ball out of the sky and then ran onto it before firing his effort just wide.
Margate’s pressure eventually paid off in the 76th minute as a fine ball to the back post by Splatt was superbly nodded home by O’Mara-Knapp to give the ‘Gate a deserved lead.
Margate looked likely to go on and grab a second as Schafer headed a chance wide, before Splatt saw a fierce effort deflected wide as the ‘Gate saw out the final minutes to record a second straight win and make it three games unbeaten at the start of the 2026/27 season.
