Cawley Chooses Margate
We are delighted to announce the signing of prolific striker Steve Cawley from Hitchin Town for the 2023/24 season.
31-year old Cawley brings a wealth of experience to the Blues attacking line having enjoyed successful spells at Hitchin Town, Hemel Hempstead, Bishop’s Stortford and most memorably Concord Rangers in the National League South.
Cawley enjoyed a successful period of scoring goals whilst with the Essex side where he finished the club’s top goal scorer with 20 goals in the National League South during the 2015/16 season.
On joining the club, Cawley said “I know both Ben and Reece from Concord and Bishop’s Stortford respectively, so when they contacted me they showed their belief in me and I thought why not come and give it a go.”
Having spent eight seasons in the National League South, Cawley believes the difference in levels between that division and the Isthmian Premier Division is closing all the time.
“I don’t see much difference in levels so I think it will be a tough league but I hope my experience will help the boys and I can score plenty of goals.”
Assistant Manager Ben Greenhalgh linked up with Cawley during his time at Concord Rangers and is looking forward to linking up once again at Hartsdown Park.
“Steve will bring everything we need and wanted. I didn’t think he would be on the cards, but luckily we had some discussions and we are delighted to get him to Margate.”
“In terms of strikers he is one of the best I have ever played with for the way me and him linked up. Steve is a very tactical player and we had a great partnership going at Concord Rangers”.
A full interview with both Steve and Ben will be available on GATEtv later today.
Everyone at Hartsdown Park would like to welcome Steve to the club and we look forward to seeing him in a Blue shirt.
