Blackman Appointed Club Captain
Margate Football Club can confirm that Midfielder Sam Blackman has been appointed Club Captain for the 2023/24 season.
Blackman, now in his second spell at Margate put pen to paper on a new one year deal this summer and will take over the captain’s armband for the upcoming season from assistant manager Ben Greenhalgh.
Blackman made his 100th appearance for the Blues in April, and says he is looking forward to the extra responsibility this season.
“It is a privilege to be made Captain. I have enjoyed my time at Margate, all players just want to be happy playing football and loved and I would say that Is me here at Margate.”
“I get on with everyone at the club from the Board down and I have a great relationship with the fans.”
Manager Reece Prestedge explained why Blackman was handed the extra duties.
“Me and Ben spoke about handing the captaincy to somebody else this season. Ben and I agreed that we would appoint a new captain and Blacky is the perfect fit for the role.”
“He is well liked in the changing room, by the whole club and it is a positive step forward for us all. Sam has all the required leadership skills and talents on the field to be a brilliant captain for Margate Football Club.”
Margate return to pre-season training in two weeks before hosting their first friendly against Deal Town at Hartsdown Park on Saturday 8th July 2023 as part of a double header with the Women’s side facing Deal Town Women at noon.
